Olivia Cappuccini

FILM DIRECTOR

Started my own indie production house with a group of friends before the General Elections 2015. We aimed to create bitesize digestible social and political content. Five years on the team hasn’t grown but our ambitions have, we now produce short feature-length documentaries as well as digital ads for commercial brands. Our latest project was Andy Murray: Resurfacing, our first feature documentary which I shot and directed before teaming up with John Battsek at Passion Pictures. The film is now on Amazon Prime and is considered one of their best sporting docs to date.

  1. If you want to direct, learn how to edit as well as shoot. Having an understanding of it all is imperative and jumping in to cover any given role will only serve you well.
  2. Show an interest in psychology and read about it whenever possible, the language you’ll then learn to use around your contributors and the sensitivity you show will only make you a better director.

  3. When it comes to a project, start thinking and sourcing music first, it will help with your imagination and frame what you want to shoot if you have a soundtrack playing in your head.
