Matt Partridge

ANIMATOR

I’ve been working as a freelance Animator and Director for over 15 years now and been lucky enough to work for some amazing clients like Google, Headspace, and Nickelodeon.

I started as a runner for a small animation company, this gave me a great opportunity to work on lots of different projects and learn a lot of the skills I still use today.

AM

Coffee and check emails for any client feedback.

Chat through feedback with the producers and come up with a plan of attack.

If directing, I’ll talk to the animators and review any work from the previous day. If animating I’ll be the one showing my work.

Stick on a podcast or music and get animating.

PM

Pop-out for a quick bite to eat and get some fresh air.

Back on with the podcast/music and work until the end of the day.

Post any animation WIPs ready for tomorrow morning.

  1. It’s really important to be working on your own stuff. This is where you learn the most and develop as an artist. Don’t get too hung up on style. It’s more important to be working on things. Your style will develop over time.
  2. Definitely post your work online and build a presence through Social Media/showreel/website/blog/profile. When you’re looking for someone to work on a project with you, you need proof of their ability. It is totally fine to publish demo projects, but make sure it’s well presented and high quality.
  3. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. As long as you’re polite and interested, people are normally pretty happy to talk through their process or explain how they work.
