- TIPS
My vast success as an Artist Liaison has risen sharply from when I first began assisting the live music scene over two and a half years ago. An experience that stemmed from my frequent gig attendances and ten-year experience as an underground music photographer. Both experiences are what have contributed widely to my charisma and ability to build instant rapport with reputable delivery whilst being a reliable point of contact. A well-praised approach that has since led onto me collaborating further as a curator for live shows.
AM
Phone/text artists first thing to check and remind them of attendance times, the show details, and to cover any issues that may have arisen;
If late equipment requests are made, immediately look into resolutions like possible borrowing from other acts, availability from us or at the venue, suggest alternative methods;
Review Advancing sheet and run through artists’ specifications: check all guest names are added to the guest list and that all requests for the night have been met ie. any requests are accessible at the venue;
Print copies of the Run of Show sheet to take to the venue and print any unreturned contractual agreements (for recording shows) for acts to sign before showtime.
PM
Arrive at the venue half an hour before artists’ scheduled arrival time;
Contact any missing acts immediately if their delay is unknown;
When artists arrive, assist with their merchandise setups, and introduce each to the hosts and all team members;
Assist artists with their equipment setups;
Check the MC has spoken to all acts before their sets;
Be visible to all across the night;
Speak to each artist right before their sets to check they have all they need, and right after to share views on how their set went.
At the end of the night, assist with equipment clearing and advise of my post-show follow-up email the following morning.
- Background Research: Look into your acts and events beforehand for prior knowledge so you can understand them better, direct a more personable approach, and manage potential issues.
- Be personable: Put yourself in their shoes and treat them as individuals and not just as another artist – it helps immensely with rapport building
- Reliable communications: Be responsive and informative with all details so you are dependable as their point of contact.
